Best Creamy Spicy Cucumbers Recipe

These Creamy Cucumbers are so cool, creamy, and spicy and only take 15 minutes to prepare. They are a great way to use up summer cucumbers and they are wonderful for cookouts and BBQs. They pair super well with BBQ Mayo Marinated Grilled Chicken, Southern Pimento Cheese Burgers, and Jack Daniel’https://spicysouthernkitchen.com/jack-daniels-ribs/s Ribs.

Most Creamy Cucumber recipes are tangy and creamy, but this one also has some heat.. This recipe is very similar to Sour Cream Cucumbers, but the creamy dressing is a blend of mayonnaise and buttermilk. The buttermilk plus some apple cider vinegar gives the dressing a little tang. There’s just enough sugar in the dressing to balance the tanginess without being overpowering.

The spiciness comes from a combination of hot sauce and crushed red pepper flakes. For hot sauce, I like to use TABSACO or Crystal hot sauce. For extra flavor, there’s a little garlic powder, fresh parsley, and green onions.

What Type Of Cucumbers Work Best?

Regular cucumbers and English cucumbers work equally well for this recipe. Use whichever you prefer.

Recipe Tips

You can peel the cucumbers or leave them unpeeled.

Best made at least 2 hours ahead of time so the flavors have time to mingle.

Will keep for about 3 days but the cucumbers lose their crunch and the dressing gets watery over time.

Best served cold, straight from the refrigerator.

Ingredient Substitutions and Variations

  • Use red onion instead of green onion.
  • Fresh dill can be used instead of parsley.
  • Instead of garlic powder, use a fresh, minced clove of garlic.
  • Try adding more vegetables for additional flavor. Cherry tomatoes, sweet vidalia onion, and sliced radishes work well.
  • Sour cream can replace all or some of the mayonnaise.
