Quick Cooking Time
Usually you need close to an hour of simmering to get that mouth-watering southern green bean flavor. But not with the Instant Pot. These Instant Pot Green Beans only take 7 minutes!
I love the convenience of being able to saute and pressure cook right in the Instant Pot. And you just can’t beat how quickly you can get supper on the table using one.
As a bonus, for all you low carbers, these Instant Pot Southern Green Beans are low carb and keto-friendly.
Ingredients Used For Instant Pot Southern Green Beans
To make these pressure cooked southern green beans I use bacon, onion, chicken broth, seasoned salt, garlic powder, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and butter. It’s not a ton of ingredients but so much flavor gets infused into these green beans.
Equipment Needed
You will need a pressure cooker for this recipe. I use an Instant Pot 6-Quart 9-in-1 Pressure Cooker.
Tips For Making Instant Pot Green Beans
- When sauteing in the Instant Pot, be sure to let the pot get hot before adding the bacon. This will help prevent sticking.
- I like my southern green beans to be very tender. If you want your green beans to still be a little crisp, only pressure cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
- I like to cut the green beans, especially the larger ones in half so they are easier to eat.

Love this recipe. Been using it at least 3-4 years now. For the meat I usually only use smoked turkey wing or leg and it comes out perfect. I use seasonings as noted mixed into broth onion and meat. Then on top of green beans goes the butter crushed red pepper flakes and Mrs dash table blend. Mm mmm good! Thank you!
This recipe is delicious. However, I did add just a little brown sugar, (that’s just a preference of mine), but they are delicious without it.
Best green bean recipe! Always a hit for the holidays or just an easy weeknight side! Thank you:)
My family loved this recipe so I will be making it often. We love most recipes in in the instant pot. Quick & easy!
I prefer my green beans to have a little crunch. The end result of this recipe was extremely limp beans (mushy might be an appropriate adjective). For this reason, I did not care for the recipe and will not make again. In fairness, I should have guessed that putting them in an insta pot would do that. Regardless, I wonโt ever make green beans this way again.
Thatโs why they are called โSouthern Green Beansโ
She did say to only cook 2-3 minutes if you wanted a snap left in your beans. Canโt blame the recipe for chef error. And I always allow that my first pass with a recipe is not going to be my best. Give it another try now that you know not to cook as long. You can also quick release the pressure to further reduce the cooking time if needed.
Excellent! I probably hold off for one minute on the pressure cooking because they were a little bit softer than I wanted but they were tasty!
Now a family favorite! Perfect every time.!!
Absolutely wonderful
Timing was perfect 7+10.
We used beans from our garden and the result was amazing.
