Crock Pot Chicken and Gravy is one of the easiest slow cooker meals to make. Just a handful of ingredients, about 5 minutes of prep time, and 6 hours in the crock pot and you have a warm and delicious down-home meal.

Crock Pot Chicken and Gravy

To me simple foods are the most comforting  and this Crock Pot Chicken and Gravy couldn’t be simpler. It will remind you of supper at your grandmother’s house.

How To Serve

Shredded white meat chicken is absolutely swimming in a thick, rich, and flavorful gravy. Serve it over white rice or mashed potatoes with a side of green beans or peas for a family meal like no other. And don’t forget the Yeast Rolls!

How To Make Crock Pot Chicken and Gravy

Full recipe instructions can be found below.

The ingredients can be mixed together right in the crock pot so there are no dishes to clean for this meal. Just dump 2 packets of chicken gravy mix, a can of condensed chicken soup, 1 3/4 cups water, and some black pepper and garlic powder in the crock pot and stir.

Add the chicken, place the lid on top, and set to cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours and walk away.

  • Remove the lid from the crock pot, stir in 1/3 cup of sour cream to give the gravy some creaminess, and shred the chicken. So easy!

Equipment Needed

You will need a 5 to 6-quart or slightly larger slow cooker. I love my Hamilton Beach 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker.

Should I Cook Chicken On High or Low?

When cooking boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the slow cooker, I recommend using the LOW setting. Cooking them on HIGH can make them dry and chewy. Newer slow cookers tend to get much hotter than old ones and even the LOW setting cooks pretty hot. Your chicken may be done in less than 6 hours on LOW if you have a newer model.

How To Store

Leftovers reheat well if you have any. Store for 4 to 5 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in a microwave.

Can I use canned gravy instead of packet?

  2. Summer says:

To the lady who said this was bland learn to season your food!!
This was delicious! I used Herbs De Provence, garlic powder, salt n pepper to taste and my whole family loved it. I will definitely be making this again.

  3. Cindy says:

Can I cook the chicken ahead of time and put it in the crockpot after ? Iโ€™m doubling the recipe. If I do cook the chicken first how long in the crockpot will I have to cook it !

  4. Kaity says:

I only have country gravy, no chicken gravy. Think it will turn out ok?

I make this often. It’s my daughter’s favorite. Really good recipe and easily doubled.

My daughter made it. It was amazing! Everyone loved it. It was a hit.

  6. Angela says:

For my family size I’d need to double the recipe and possibly cook on high. Any idea how long to cook for high (double recipe)? If cooked on low but doubled would the time be the same? Also, what are your thoughts of adding carrots, celery and onions in the beginning?

    1. Francesca Duke says:

I would say about the same time maybe add an hour or so to be safe and I was thinking the same thing about adding veggies. Idk about celery or onions unless you wanna go for a soup kinda meal but definitely could get away with adding carrots I think.

  7. Calvin Franklin says:

Made this and definitely loved it! I seasoned and seared my chicken breasts before putting them in the croc pot. Itโ€™s always beast to sear all meats first for these types of recipes. Added finely chopped onions and mushrooms also. And you DEFINITELY need to season to your familyโ€™s preferred taste. As for the sodium, use low sodium products.

  8. Candace says:

Overall very good , I felt it was bland so I added herbs at the end .. just some Italian spices , salt , pepper , bay leaf and a good amount of garlic . My opinion , they should revise and say add more seasoning as desired especially for people who donโ€™t cook .. love the added sour cream !!!! Great meal !!

How much cornstarch did you use?

  10. Beth Smith says:

Absolutely wonderful! I used a little corn starch to thicken the gravy and added mixed peas, carrots and corn once done. My kids loved it and it was so simple! Will make again!
