Type Of Chili

I use canned chili for this Cheesy Hot Dog Tater Tot Casserole but you could use homemade. Either with or without beans. You’ll need 2 15-ounce cans which would be just under 4 cups of homemade chili. I typically use one can with beans and one can without.

Other Ingredients For Cheesy Hot Dog Tater Tot Casserole

Eight hot dogs get sliced and added to the chili along with ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, finely chopped onion, and just a few red pepper flakes.

Assemble and Bake

Place the mixture in a 9×13-inch baking dish and sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese. Then top with the tater tots. Bake for 30 minutes to get the tater tots crispy. Then sprinkle another cup of shredded cheese on top and bake 10 more minutes. Then get ready to dig into all that cheese!

Recipe Tip

Be sure to either finely chop the onion or saute it for a few minutes. Otherwise it will taste raw and crunchy in the finished casserole.

Is This Casserole Spicy?

With 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes, this casserole has minimal heat. Double the amount for more substantial heat or serve with hot sauce.

This was a yummy twist on the usual chili dogs. It’s requires only simple ingredients, and it’s quick and easy to put together. Great quick, kid friendly week day dinner. I used chili without beans since I have bean haters at my dinner table.

I made this ! 8/3/2020…..easy & delicious! I used 1/2 tbsp of onion powder in place of the half medium onion; as there’s a big recall on all onions going on. It still was a great recipe that my family & I enjoyed ! Will make it again for sure! ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฒ

I made this using two packages of nitrate/nitrite free hot dogs (so 16 total dogs) and a package of crispy rounds (flattened tots) and followed the rest of the recipe to a “T”. It came together quickly and my guys (husband, 23 y.o. son and 15 y.o. son) all loved it. Will be making again due to how quickly it came together and reviews of the family.

Everyone Loved this Hot Dog, Chili, Cheese and Tater Tots. Ir have 4 Granddaughters and 2 are really Picky Eaters. I did leave out the red pepper flakes. Granddaughters do not like really spicy food. I made my chili from scratch. Easy Fun Recipe for Children to Help you Make. ๐Ÿ˜‹
