You’ll feel like you’re at the county fair when you whip up a batch of these Fried Oreos. Coated in a golden pancake batter, the cookies get soft and melty inside. They are the perfect sweet treat.

They’re a little like beignets, except with a hidden surprise inside.

I first started learning how to cook when I was very young. Probably under the age of 10. And early on I was very interested in frying foods. With adult supervision of course. I have fried all kinds of foods over the years. Some of my favorites are Deep Fried Candy Corn, Fried Peanut Butter Cups, and Deep Fried Cookie Dough. Does anything not taste good fried?

A lot of people shy away from frying because they think it is too messy. But this recipe really isn’t. The batter is quick and easy to make, you only need a few inches of oil in a Dutch oven, and they fry up in just minutes.

Best Eaten Right Away

Like most fried foods, these Fried Oreos are best eaten right away while they are still warm. Not right, right away. Let them cool a little of course. But you want the cookies to still be really soft.

Ingredient Notes

  • Pancake Batter– Use any pancake batter you like. Aunt Jemima, Hungry Jack, or even Bisquick all work well.
  • Oil– I like to fry in a neutral oil like vegetable oil. Some people prefer Canola oil.

How To Make

  1. In a mixing bowl whisk together milk, egg, vegetable oil and vanilla extract.
  2. Stir in pancake mix and sugar. Let sit 5 to 10 minutes. (It will thicken up some.)
  3. Heat a few inches of oil in a Dutch oven.
  4. Working in batches, coat about 4 oreos in batter and add to oil.
  5. Fry for about 2 minutes per side.
  6. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Serve. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.

Get The Oil Temperature Just Right

You want the oil temperature to be 350-370 degrees. A deep-frying thermometer is helpful for ensuring the temperature stays in the right range.

If the oil temperature is not hot enough the batter will absorb too much oil and they will taste greasy. If the oil is too hot, the outside will burn before the inside is done.

Type Of Oreos To Use

I like to use Double Stuff Oreos, but regular oreos are fine. Or try one of the fun flavors like peanut butter, birthday cake, mint or red velvet. I can’t even keep track of all the flavors available now.

Recipe Tip

Fry in batches. Don’t crowd the oil or the temperature will drop too much. Fry about 4 at a time.

How To Serve

I like to sprinkle them with a little powdered sugar but you could also top them with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and strawberries if you want to go all out.
