Recipe Tips

If you don’t eat low carb, you can add a can of kidney beans and it tastes great with cornbread.

Ground turkey can be substituted for ground beef.

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days and can be frozen.

How Spicy Is This Soup?

If you use “Hot” Rotel tomatoes and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, it has a moderate amount of heat. For more heat, double the amount of cayenne pepper or add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes.

Can I cook this just in a pot over the stove vs. a crockpot?

  10. Jim says:

The accompanying video showing how easy it is to make this soup shows 10 – 15 minutes of cooking in the crock pot. This must be for those that want to eat it with raw cabbage and onionsโ€ฆthis has to be a miss print as the written recipe says to cook for 6 – 8 hours on lowโ€ฆ.
Other than that the recipe does look good and I might try it sometimeโ€ฆ

The cabbage and onion cook in the broth you add to the crock pot you have to cook the ground beef first and add it to the crock pot first . Then add all liquids and vegetables that wil cook in the liquid. If you try it it’s great!
