Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Pie is a cool and creamy no-bake dessert with lots of salty/sweet peanut butter flavor. It’s a light and refreshing pie for summer, but I love it anytime of year.
If you love peanut butter desserts as much as I do, you should also try my Peanut Butter Bundt Cake, Peanut Butter Sheet Cake, and Peanut Butter Brownies.
Ingredients Needed
- Creamy Peanut Butter– I use either Jif or Skippy. I don’t recommend using an all-natural peanut butter for this recipe.
- Cream Cheese– use full-fat for best flavor and be sure to fully soften it.
- Powdered Sugar
- Heavy Cream– use cold heavy cream.
- Cream of Tartar– helps stabilize the heavy cream.
- Pie Crust– use either a store-bought or homemade pie crust.
- Cool Whip and Chopped Peanuts – optional for garnish.
How To Make Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Pie
- Beat cream cheese and powdered sugar together in a large bowl. Use either a hand-held electric mixer or a stand mixer.
- In a separate bowl with clean beaters beat the heavy cream and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold whipped cream mixture into peanut butter mixture
- Transfer filling to pie crust. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Make Ahead and Storage
You will want to make this pie at least 2 hours in advance so it has time to chill and set up. Once made it can be kept in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days.
Recipe Suggestions
- Instead of using a homemade or refrigerated pie crust, you can use a graham cracker crust or an oreo pie crust.
- You can sub 3 cups of Cool Whip for the heavy cream and cream of tartar.

This is probably tasty, but nothing beats a truly old-fashioned baked peanut butter pie with eggs, corn syrup, etc.
