Camellia Grill’s Pecan Pie- this is the delicious pecan pie served at the famous Camellia Grill in New Orleans.
The Camellia Grill is a restaurant in uptown New Orleans that has been open since 1946. All of the seating is counter seating and when you order the pecan pie, they heat it on the griddle and serve it with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. I use to go there frequently when I was a student at Tulane.
No trip to Camellia Grill is complete without ordering a slice of pecan pie. It is to die for.
Pecan Pie Recipe
All pecan pies have a simple, ultra-sweet filling made from corn syrup (either light or dark), sugar (usually light or dark brown sugar), eggs, butter, and pecans.
Most pecan pie recipes are very similar and there’s nothing unique about this recipe, but it is a very excellent pie with an ultra sweet filling.
This pie is so easy to make. No mixer needed. Just a bowl and a whisk and the filling comes together in under 10 minutes.
Type Of Pie Crust To Use
When I make pecan pie, I typically use a frozen, store-bought pie crust or a refrigerated pie crust. If you want to make a homemade pie crust, try this Flaky Pie Crust Recipe. There’s no need to pre-bake the pie crust.
How To Tell When A Pecan Pie Is Done
Give the pie a shake. There should still be a slight jiggle in the center, but the rest of it should be set. It will firm up as it cools.
Recipe Tips
- Let the pie cool completely before cutting.
- I add some extra pecans to this recipe because I don’t feel like 1 cup is enough. A pecan pie should be all about the pecans after all.
- Sometimes I add a few drops of almond extract to my pecan pies for extra flavor.
Storage
Can be left at room temperature for 4 to 5 days.
