Southern BBQ Pizza with Pulled Pork is a fantastic way to use up leftover pulled pork that you’ve cooked in your crock pot or smoker.

Southern BBQ Pizza with pulled pork.

I’ve kept this pizza fairly simple, using store-bought bbq sauce for the pizza sauce, some leftover pulled pork, bacon, red onion, a sliced roma tomato, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, and cilantro and green onion sprinkled on top.

If you use store-bought pizza dough or a homemade pizza dough you prepared in advance, this pizza becomes a quick and easy weeknight meal.

Southern BBQ Pizza with Pulled Pork

My daughter has me hooked on eating pizza with bbq sauce. I love the tangy sweetness of it. Since you can now order bbq sauce as the sauce for any Papa John’s pizza, I hardly eat pizza with tomato sauce anymore.

Puled pork is one of my favorite foods to cook because it is easy to make a large amount and the leftovers can be turned into a completely different meal so that you don’t feel like you are eating leftovers at all. If your family is anything like mine, you know leftovers can be a hard sell.

I’ve put suggested amounts of ingredients, but you don’t have to be precise with them. You know how much sauce, toppings, and cheese you like and it is best just to go with that.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup bbq sauce,, or more or less depending on your sauce preferences
  • 1 cup pulled pork
  • 2-3 pieces bacon,, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 red onion,, thinly sliced
  • 2 roma tomatoes,, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, (cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey jack, or a combination)
  • 2 green onions,, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  • Place a baking stone in the oven and heat oven to 500 degrees (or as high as it will go). If you don't have a pizza stone, just assemble the pizza on a greased baking sheet.
  • Divide dough in half and one piece at a time, stretch or roll the dough.
  • Place dough on a pizza paddle that has been lightly coated with cornmeal or flour. Shake the paddle to make sure the pizza is not clinging to it.
  • Spoon desired amount of bbq sauce on pizza dough.
  • Top with pulled pork, bacon, red onion, roma tomato, and cheese. Note: If your pulled pork does not have sauce on it, you may want to mix a little in with it.
  • Sprinkle with green onion and cilantro. (Or you can do this just after the pizza is baked.)
  • Transfer to pizza stone or place baking sheet in oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
  • Repeat with second piece of dough.

Notes

I find it's best to allow pizza dough to come to room temperature before attempting to stretch it. If you are having trouble stretching it, let it rest for 5 minutes and then resume.
