Bourbon Apple Pork Chops- savory pork chops are topped with bacon and apples flavored with bourbon. Makes a great fall or winter dinner.
Can be made start to finish in under 25 minutes. The pork chops are seasoned with either mesquite or bbq seasoning which gives them a little smoky flavor. The flavor of the bourbon and bacon combine to make a really tasty topping for seared pork chops.
How To Make Bourbon Apple Pork Chops
- Cook the bacon and set it aside, leaving 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the pan.
- Blot the pork chops dry. (This will help get a better sear on them.) Season with salt and pepper and either mesquite or bbq seasoning. You don’t need to use much salt if your seasoning has salt as the first or second ingredient.
- Cook the pork chops in the bacon grease for about 4 to 6 minutes per side.
- Set the pork chops aside and add the butter to the pan. Cook onion and apples in the butter for 2 to 3 minutes then add the bourbon, chicken broth and heavy cream. Simmer until thickened and then season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Spoon the apple mixture over the pork chops and sprinkle the bacon on top.
What Type Of Apple To Use?
You want to use a sweet, crisp apple like Gala or Honey Crisp.
What Type Of Pork Chop To Use?
I like to use bone-in, thick-cut pork chops. The bone helps keep the pork chops from drying out and adds flavor. You can use boneless if you prefer, but be really careful not to overcook them.
When Is Pork Done?
Pork is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F. Overcooked pork will taste dry and tough so be careful not to overcook it. Use an instant read thermometer for best results. The temperature will continue to rise a few degrees after you remove it from the heat so it’s safe to take the pork chops out of the pan around 142 or 143 degrees.
Recipe Tip
The bourbon can be left out if you don’t cook with alcohol. It will still taste delicious.
