Two beef bouillon cubes and some herbs give this Cabbage Beef Soup most of its flavor.

How To Make Slow Cooker Spicy Cabbage Beef Soup

  1. Brown the ground beef.
  2. Place the ground beef and the other ingredients in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
  4. Serve.

Recipe Tips

If you don’t eat low carb, you can add a can of kidney beans and it tastes great with cornbread.

Ground turkey can be substituted for ground beef.

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days and can be frozen.

How Spicy Is This Soup?

If you use “Hot” Rotel tomatoes and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, it has a moderate amount of heat. For more heat, double the amount of cayenne pepper or add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 cups chopped cabbage,, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion,
  • 1 (15-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (10-ounce) can Rotel tomatoes and green chiles
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes,, crumbled
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions 

  • Brown ground beef in a large nonstick skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
  • Place cabbage and onion in a 6-quart slow cooker. Add the cooked ground beef.
  • Add remaining ingredients.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.

    This soup has the perfect about of cabbage and heat for a colder day. Even hubby liked it and he isn’t big on cabbage.

    I followed the recipe as close as I could. I live in Mexico so I do not have access to all the ingredients. I used a can of diced tomatoes, and added a half cup of chopped fresh tomatoes. We do not have Rotelle so I used a cup of canned jalapeรฑos. I used fresh chopped garlic, added into the hamburger for the last 30 seconds before adding it to the slow cooker. I added a half cup of chopped carrots also to add a little more vegetable earthy flavor. After cooking for a few hours I was not satisfied with the amount of liquid in the cooker so I added 2 cups of Clamato juice and a half cup of scotch whiskey. After the allowed cooking time I added the juice from 2 Mexican limes. The flavor was fantastic. Also I did not use cayenne pepper. I would recommend this recipe but with a few additions to suit your flavor interests..

    My husband and I love this soup!
    I donโ€™t use a slow cooker I just make it on the stove top. I only simmer about 30 minutes as we like a little more texture to the cabbage. Sometimes I add some spicy sausage to the ground beef as well. So simple! So delicious! Satisfies hubbyโ€™s spice cravings too.
