How To Make Smothered Asparagus

- Cook Asparagus and Onion. Get rid of all but 1 tablespoon of bacon grease and add asparagus and onion. Cook 1 minute. Add half a cup of water and continue to cook until most of the water has evaporated and the asparagus is tender.
- Add Remaining Ingredients. Add brown sugar, butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cook for about 2 minutes.
- Chop bacon and add to skillet.

How To Choose Asparagus
Fresh asparagus spears are firm and have tightly closed tips. Either thick or thin stalks work for this recipe so it’s a matter of personal preference. Use asparagus within a few days. It will keep a little longer if stored with ends in water.
How To Store Asparagus
The best way to store asparagus is to place it upright in a glass or jar with about an inch of water and place in the refrigerator. The next best way is to wrap the ends in a damp paper towel and then store in the crisper.
Storage
Leftovers will keep for 4 days in an air tight container in the refrigerator.
