The Neely's Baked beans with smoked sausage. This is my very favorite baked bean recipe!

This Baked Beans with Smoked Sausage recipe is my very favorite baked bean recipe. What makes it so special is the slices of smoked sausage. If you’re a fan of having meat in your baked beans, you will love this recipe. It’s like Beanie Weenies, only much better.

Not only is this recipe flavored with bacon, but the slices of smoked sausage, (I used kielbasa), make it feel like a main dish casserole instead of a side.

And you may like it so much that you want to eat it as a main dish. I think that’s perfectly acceptable.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Just like any delicious baked bean recipe, this recipe has plenty of sweetness. A combination of ketchup, molasses, and light brown sugar provides the sweetness. A little apple cider vinegar, mustard, and Tabasco sauce balances the sweetness.

It cooks in the oven in an uncovered Dutch oven until nice and thick, which really concentrates the flavors.

Baked Beans with Smoked Sausage will be the hit of your next cookout, potluck, or picnic.

Baked Beans with smoked sausage are super meaty and thick. Lots of sweetness from brown sugar, molasses, and ketchup.

Did steps 1-4 then put everything in crock pot. Also replaced one can of pork and beans with white beans (opened wrong can) but it was delicious! Thanks for the recipe.

    1. Sandra Riddell says:

I also used a can of white kidney beans. I used hot Italian sausages and topped the whole dish with cut up bacon before putting in the oven. Rave reviews all around and instant requests to make this again.

  2. Chriski55 says:

Do I drain the beans first

      You do not drain them.

Would this work with Chorizo instead of sausage?

      Absolutely!

How do you think this would freeze? I want to serve but have company for 10 days straight and am trying to make ahead as many dishes as possible. Thanks.

    1. Christin Mahrlig says:

Yes, you can freeze them Jan. Wow! Ten days is a long time to have company. Good luck!

        Hi !
I made this last month. It was delicious!! This is now my go to baked beans recipe! I doubled the recipe. So I had plenty leftover. I froze it. Havenโ€™t reheated it yet. Any advice for the future? Would it be better to make it up and freeze it unbaked. Or bake it 1st and then freeze it?

  6. Bev says:

I stir the bacon in at the end of the cook time or just before serving.
