Spicy Beer Shrimp makes an easy and tasty party appetizer. Serve with some warm crusty bread for sopping up all the tasty broth. The beer gives a unique and delicious taste to the shrimp and you can add as little or as much spice as you like.
Fresh shrimp are simmered in a mixture of butter, beer, Old Bay seasoning, red pepper flakes, onion, and garlic.
Shrimp cook in just a few minutes so it is best to let them soak in the cooking liquid for awhile after they are cooked. They will soak up more of the flavors this way. You don’t want to overcook the shrimp so be sure you remove them from the heat before they are fully cooked. They will continue to cook in the hot liquid.
The shrimp cook in their shells for maximum flavor. Eating them is messy. Be sure to have plenty of paper towels handy and a few cold beers to wash down all that spice.
If you want to, serve these Spicy Beer Shrimp with cocktail sauce or just peel them and dip them in the spicy broth. Either way, this is an easy, tasty meal or appetizer perfect for lazy summer days.

What a lovely recipe for my fresh caught big shrimp! Cooking shrimp can be a fickle thing so I mixed the broth first and brought it to a boil and then added the shrimp and took it off the heat immediately and let the shrimp do their thing. Perfection!!!
The best boil shrimp ever. It’s easy to fix.
Very good! (halved recipe) We had this wit toast as a main course for a casual dinner for two. I like that I can control the heat for other family members so easily in future recipes by adjusting the crushed red pepper.
Will definitely make again.
Delicious!

Since I can’t stand Old Bay, I substitute Tony Chachere’s creole seasoning.
