Chocolate, pecans, and coconut make one heck of a great tasting milkshake. It’s like a slice of German Chocolate Cake in a glass! Even though the weather has cooled down, I still find myself craving a milkshake every now and then and this one is super sweet and satisfying.
Earlier this month I went on a fabulous retreat with 9 other food bloggers- Lindsay from Life, Love and Sugar, Paula from Call Me PMc, Kita from Pass the Sushi and Girl Carnivore, Liz from Floating Kitchen, Beth from Beth Cakes, Amanda from Heartbeet Kitchen, Ashley from Spoonful of Flavor, Justine from Cooking and Beer, and Danae from Recipe Runner. We stayed at Watercolor Resort, which is a part of the section of Florida known as 30A. This is a part of Florida I’ve been dying to visit ever since Coastal Living did one of their Ultimate Beach Houses in Rosemary Beach. I was immediately drawn in by the fantastic architecture. There are a bunch of small beach communities one after the other along 30A, each one with it’s own personality. It is an ideal place to vacation.
The water is almost Caribbean-like in color and the sand is fabulously white and soft. My friend Ashley from Spoonful of Flavor organized the retreat for us. And let me tell you, this girl could undoubtedly be one of the best event planners in the southeast if she wanted to. She had a whole 2 1/2 days of fabulous events and food planned for us and it all went off without a hitch.
Not to mention we got to stay in some pretty fabulous digs.
This was truly a beautiful house.
Among the highlights of the retreat were breakfast at The Perfect Pig where they have the best bacon and grits ever!
Pictured above is a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich completely coated in Parmesan cheese. Amazing!
Dinner at The Watercolor Inn where we had course after course of truly amazing food including Southern Deviled Eggs with Smoked Char Roe, Pan Seared Gulf Black Grouper, and Snake River Farms Eye of the Rib Eye with White Truffle Mashed Potatoes.
The Rib Eye was easily the best Rib Eye I have ever had.
We also had a lovely smoothie breakfast courtesy of Naturipe Berries and KitchenAid.
I had the most wonderful time and am convinced girls retreats should be mandatory every few months. And I can’t wait to go back to 30A. There is still so much I want to see.
But back to this milkshake. I used my gorgeous new KitchenAid Blender to make a milkshake for German Chocolate Lovers. Don’t you love the Raspberry Ice color?
I really wanted it to have the taste that I associate with a German Chocolate Cake and that taste is of the gooey coconut and pecan icing. So I thought- why not get a container of premade Coconut Pecan Frosting and add a little to some chocolate ice cream along with some melted German chocolate to make a milkshake?
It’s a super sweet milkshake with plenty of coconut and pecan flavor.
You have to be careful how much frosting you add because it is really sweet. But you can always add some shredded coconut if you want more coconut flavor and I ended up using some for garnish on top. I love the chewy texture of the coconut and crunch of the pecans with this creamy milkshake.
So I really want to hear. Have you ever been to the 30A area of Florida? As much as I’ve always been partial to the beaches of the Carolinas, I have to say I’m quite smitten with this area of Florida and can’t wait to go back.
