Crock Pot Buttery Bacon Green Beans on a serving dish.

This ultra-easy side dish is sure to become a family favorite. A recipe so good, you’ll want to serve it for holiday meals.

Green beans cooked in a crock pot are so, so good because they have tons of time to soak up flavors. Green beans are a little bland on their own, but add some garlic, onion, butter, bacon, and Worcestershire sauce and they are totally transformed.

Butter and bacon are two of my favorite “B” words and they really elevate the flavor of these canned green beans. It’s the ultimate southern side dish.

Bacon Green Beans cooked in the Slow Cooker

A combination of bacon grease and crumbled bacon imparts so much smoky flavor. A little bit of brown sugar is added to give these green beans just a little sweetness. I also add a few crushed red pepper flakes to give them a bit of heat. Double the amount if you want them spicy.

The green beans slow cook for 4 to 6 hours during which time the flavors are really melded together.

Is This Dish Spicy?

I add a few red pepper flakes to give these green beans just a little heat. Double the amount if you want them spicy.

  1. So incredibly easy and mouth watering good! My daughter will choose these over Mac and cheese. Which is one of her staples!! Delicious!!!

  2. This green bean recipe sounds wonderful! Want to try it for Sunday lunch, but will not be around to stir it a few times. Will the green beans still cook properly or would I need to add a bit of liquid and if so, how much. Really want to try this. Thank you for sharing.

  3. I use canned whole green beans, salt pork, and canned diced potatoes. Add to crockpot. Season garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper to taste. Cook on low 8-10 hours. The best!

  4. Family loved it Thanksgiving. Going to make it for Easter. Lots of compliments on this. So much better than the usual “green bean casserole with mushroom soup?” Yuk

  5. I’ve made this recipe for thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner. Was a hit both times!

    1. Great recipe! I made it for 24 people. 6 big cans just barely fit in my crockpot, so I stirrred everything in a big bowl. Then I baked it in 2 9×13 pans in the oven for about 45 min. The oven gave it a bit of a crisp. Then I transferred to a crock pot to keep it warm. Great flavor! I didn’t have any worchestire sauce, so I used soy sauce. I used less bacon and butter because of what I had on hand. Several asked for the recipe. It is very similar to the recipe for Arkansas Green Beans, which I also love. But I like the addition of onions and garlic.

  6. These sound great, but don’t you need some kind of liquid added? Waiting for reply since these will be going to Thanksgiving dinner.

  7. Love these green beans BUT can we ad small golden potatoes cut in half? If we do should we ad a cup of chicken broth?

    1. I thought so too with the liquid, but they did just great! I made these a couple of weeks ago for thanksgiving with my family, and my brother (who is a very picky green bean eater) demolished them and compared them to my late grandmother’s home cooked green beans. I’m making them again right now for our Friendsgiving. Highly recommend!

  8. These were AH-mazing!! Just what I was looking for! Cook the bacon, set it, and forget it. It cooked while I got other things made for Easter. Thank you for this recipe!

  9. I’ve made these a handful of times and they are my favorite!! Do you think I could add potatoes?

  10. Best green beans! Made them on the stove, forgot to start crockpot! Big hit with the family and they have requested I make these again! Thank you for the recipe!

  11. These don’t need to cook 4-6 hours. I cooked on low for about an hour, then turned them down to “keep warm”. The beans are, afterall, already cooked. The recipe is good. Will use when camping and out of fresh veg, but it won’t replace your mommas green bean bake.

You just saved my life with your comment! I need to have a side dish ready for an impromptu potluck in about 3 hours

Okay yes… I need this for a trip the night we get there and don’t have 4 hours. So do you think 1 hour on high would be enough?
