Irish Soda Bread is a simple and delicious quick bread with a little sweetness and a few raisins. Goes great with Corned Beef and Cabbage for a delicious St. Patrick’s Day meal.
This is truly one of the easiest breads to make and it tastes incredible slathered with butter.
The best thing about this quick bread, besides the flavor, is you only need simple ingredients to make it: flour, sugar, baking soda and powder, buttermilk, butter and an egg. The dough can be mixed and kneaded all in one bowl. You’ll baste it with a combination of melted butter and buttermilk a few times while it bakes. This helps form a crispy exterior on the bread.
How To Store Irish Soda Bread:
Like most homemade breads, Irish Soda Bread can dry out quickly and easily and is best eaten shortly after baking. It can be kept for 3 to 4 days at room temperature if wrapped up well. Or it can be frozen for up to 2 months.
You can use either raisins or currants. I prefer the flavor and texture of currants but they can be hard to find.
I don’t know why this bread is only popular for St. Patrick’s Day. It’s such a delicious bread and should be enjoyed all year long. This bread has so much flavor it’s hard to believe it’s a no-yeast bread.
Crunchy on the outside, moist and sweet on the inside. This Irish Soda Bread is a real winner.
