Mashed Potato Green Bean Casserole is a delicious combination of two of my favorite Thanksgiving sides. On the bottom, a creamy layer of mashed potatoes covered by a cheesy green bean casserole.
Each one tastes incredible on its own, but even better when combined into one extraordinary side.

I’ve yet to meet a kid who doesn’t like mashed potatoes and I love how versatile Simply Potatoes Traditional Mashed Potatoes are. They are delicious as is or in your favorite recipes and so much fun to use to create fun, unique recipes like this Mashed Potato Green Bean Casserole.
Since most of the work is done for you, you can quickly and easily transform them into Cheesy Bacon Mashed Potatoes or make a weeknight Shepherd’s Pie in no time at all. The options are endless.
But I think you’re really going to love the way a layer of Green Bean Casserole (with cheddar cheese no less!) tastes on top of these mashed potatoes. I use fresh green beans, but you can use canned, plus a can of cream of mushroom soup, a little milk and soy sauce, and lots of French fried onions.
Trust me when I say if you’re a fan of green beans casserole and you like mashed potatoes (who doesn’t?) you are going to love this Mashed Potato Green Bean Casserole!

I love this sound and look of this dish… but when it comes to Mashed Potatoes… I’m and Old Fart… will eat anything in front of me…. Like all the ideas here…. but for me… Melted Butter and Salt and Pepper… ♥
when I make mashed potatoes I use evaporated milk instead of cream then the usual butter, salt and pepper. after reading several recipes in this posting, the next time I will use mayonnaise instead of butter!
Has anyone tried using sweet potatoes?
A favorite weeknight quick-fix is to mix corn niblets and creamed corn together for a gravy on our mashed potatoes…. lots of butter of course 🙂
I love to add sour cream & chives to my mashed potatoes
My potatoes always get LOTS of garlic and cheddar, sometimes parmesan, and bit of water or skim milk if too thick. Have been looking for recipes to use my bountiful bean harvest, so this looks like a winner
I love to add chopped scallions, salt and pepper, a little horseradish, and sour cream. Delicious and a little different. People will ask what is that great taste in the potatoes.
Sharp cheddar, chives and garlic!
I absolutely love blue cheese with my potatoes! That’s only if I’m making them just for myself though, for my family I like to add chives and sour cream.
This seems flawless, why change a thing?
I love making mashed potatoes with mushroom and spinach gravy.
I love to add bacon, cheese and a little serrano pepper to my mashed potatoes. So good!
I love to use chicken broth, garlic and salt to flavor my mashed potatoes!
I love to add garlic to mashed potatoes and top with a butercrumb topping also! So yummy. Sometimes I like to dice some scallions for the top as well. I just love mashed potatoes.

REAL BUTTER! I grew up calling margarine “butter” and ever had the real stuff until I was an adult. Never have gone back!
I agree, Gina. Butter tastes so much better than margarine!
Lots of butter.
