A Blackberry Mint Julep makes a refreshingly sweet summer cocktail. The scent and the flavor of the mint combined with the sweet tartness of fresh blackberries is a winning combination.

Ingredients
Simple Syrup
1/2cupwater
1/2cupsugar
Blackberry Puree
1 1/2heaping cupsfresh blackberries
1tablespoonswater
Mint Julep
1/2ouncesimple syrup
4mint leaves, torn into pieces
2 1/2ounces bourbon
1 1/2ouncesblackberry puree
mint leaves and blackberries for garnish
Instructions
Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until sugar has completely melted. Remove from heat and let cool.
Place blackberries and water in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour mixture through a fine-meshed sieve into a bowl or glass measuring cup. Push on mixture with the back of a spoon to get all the liquid through. Discard seeds and pulp.
Place simple syrup and mint leaves in the bottom of a glass. Gently muddle to release the oils in the mint.
Add bourbon and blackberry puree. Stir.
Add ice to glass and garnish with mint leaves and blackberries.
Notes
You should have enough blackberry puree for 3 drinks. Add an extra cup of blackberries and an extra tablespoon of water to the blender if you need more than 3 drinks.
