Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding Recipe

Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding made with stale glazed doughnuts is maybe the most heavenly thing you will taste besides “Hot” Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. It is creamy and sinfully rich. Serve with an easy homemade chocolate sauce to mimic a chocolate glazed doughnut.

This is a great recipe if you have leftover, stale Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Like you’d have any of those right? I didn’t but I wanted to try making Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding so badly, I went to the Krispy Kreme store near our house and bought 2 dozen “Hot Now” doughnuts. One dozen for us the eat fresh and one dozen to save. Not such an easy task. The saving part.

Krispy Kreme Glazed Donuts

Now if you’ve never had a Hot Krispy Kreme doughnut right off the conveyor belt, let me just say they are the best things ever. Literally.

The texture is unreal, so light and pillowy. They just melt in your mouth. But with each passing minute they lose a little of their special something. Until they become those dense Krispy Kreme doughnuts you can buy at the gas station. They don’t tempt me at all. You can revive them a little by sticking them in the microwave for 8-10 seconds, but they will never completely recapture that “Hot” flavor and texture.

Not eating that second box of doughnuts for 3 days was quite the challenge. They were hidden at the back of the bottom shelf in the pantry to lessen the temptation.

I don’t recommend torturing yourself in this way.

Turn stale glazed donuts into a heavenly Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding.

But if you do happen to ever have stale glazed doughnuts on your hands, take them and drown them in milk, cream, eggs, and sugar and bake until hot. You will have maybe the next best thing to “Hot” Krispy Kremes – Hot Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding.

Put on a little homemade chocolate sauce to get that taste of a chocolate glazed doughnut. Stale never tasted so good!

Note: If you don’t live where Krispy Kreme doughnuts are available, any glazed doughnut will do.

  1. My family LOVED this bread pudding!!! It was easy to make and soooo delicious! I added 1/2 cup of raisins and made a Bourbon sauce, it will try a rum sauce the next time. This was my first time making ANY type of dessert and was perfect! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

  2. I’ve made this a few times now and my whole family (including those who don’t like bread pudding) LOVE it!

I have a question. Can this be prepared in advance then placed in the oven to cook the next day? Or am I better to cook and reheat the next day?

  3. I love this recipe. My Grandma made it from since I can remember. My Mom did to. But I’m confused. If your Southern and only know Stale Krispie Kreme doughnuts., I’m amazed. I’m in NC where they started from and I beg you get some actual fresh ones from one of the distributors. You’d kinda be ashamed to even speak of them as stale gas station doughnuts. For that comparison only Dunking Doughnuts fit. When they are fresh. 😁

  4. I made this but instead of your topping :
    12 tsp. Butter
    2 cups brown sugar
    2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
Mix soft butter with sugar. Mix in pecans. Break in peices across top before baking.
    Awesome Pecan Pie donut pudding.

  5. Love this recipe. I’ve made it three times and every time has turned out perfectly. The last couple times I made only half of the chocolate sauce so that I didn’t have so much left over. Served with ice cream. YUM!
Thank you for this delightful treat.

  6. This is the VERY BEST bread pudding that I have EVER eaten. I wish it wasn’t so fattening! I would make it at least once a week!!!

  7. I have been making these for years, although not always out of Krispy Cream donuts. Almost any donut will do.
I prefer to use a rum sauce or whisky sauce instead of chocolate.
    Never had any complaints.

Oh my word! Oh my goodness!!
This was my very first bread pudding EVER and I am so thrilled that I decided to use your recipe! Someone had suggested making a donut bread pudding using some leftover doughnuts we had from our Bible study class this week and being the adventurous type when it comes to cooking, I thought it would something I would be willing to try. Now, I’ve already mentioned this was my first one. I was a bit nervous as to how it would turn out. Well….I couldn’t wait to take it out of the oven – the smells of the brown sugar, the vanilla (used a bit extra) and the nutmeg (also used a bit extra) were so tantalizing and delightful. My husband had the first scoopful – he was groaning in culinary delight. He stated that he’d rather have that than whatever I was planning to make for dinner. Took a sample to my bestie neighbor and she swooned over it as well – shared the recipe with her. I will definitely be doing this again and again! Thank you for creating such a wonderful dessert that is very easy to make and super yummy!!

  9. I fixed this for Thanksgiving dinner for one of the desserts. It was the 1st to vanish. Definitely a keeper! Can’t wait to try more of your recipes.

  10. The BEST. I made this for Thanksgiving & it became the main event. It was taken out of oven along with the other items warming & guests thought it went with meal. Kept going back for 2nds. Needless to say none left for dessert. This is for sure a keeper😊😊

  11. I would like to Half the Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding recipe. Had anyone done that and did it come out ok. Thank you again for your time, cindy

If you cut all ingredient quantities in half and use a smaller pan it should come out fine Cindy.

  12. Krispy Kreme is 80 miles one way, but would like to try this Bread Pudding recipe. Please tell me 12 Krispy Kreme donuts = how many cups of donuts cut up? That info will help me so very much with this recipe. Thank you for your time and info that you may send me, cindy

I’ve never measured cut up donuts by the cup Cindy and I think it would vary greatly based on what size pieces you cut them into and whether you pack them into the cup or just fill the cup loosley.

  13. Mary P Bradley

OOPS! It’s not sweetened condensed milk it’s evaporated milk.
Can evaporated milk be used to substitute heavy whipping cream?

Evaporated milk is thinner than heavy cream and not as rich but I think it would work alright.
