How To Serve Crock Pot Beef Tips with Gravy

I like to throw some peas on the side or a small side salad to round out the meal. Beef Tips and Gravy is also delicious served over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

An Easy Prep Recipe

This recipe is totally simple. There’s no need to precook anything and about 5 minutes of prep time is all you need. I like a super thick gravy so I do spend a few minutes at the end thickening the gravy. I follow Brandy’s (The Country Cook) method of thickening gravy for Crock Pot Beef Tips. She makes a roux using 2 tablespoons of butter and 3 heaping tablespoons of flour. Then 2 cups of the liquid from the crock pot is added. It makes a super thick and tasty gravy. You can always add extra cooking liquid if you want a thinner gravy.

Type Of Beef To Use

We don’t eat a ton of red meat, but this is one of my favorite beef recipes. It makes a hearty meal and doesn’t break the bank. I usually make it when chuck roast goes on sale. You can use other types of meat too- anything labeled beef tips or stew meat and round steak works as well.

What can I substitute for the mushroom ? We have mushroom allergy in this family. Would cream of celery soup work?

  3. Sarah E Normile

This was delicious. One of my new favorite meals. Forgot to add Thyme but it was still excellent.

Your recipe is too bland for my taste. Next time I will make time to brown and season the beef chunks separately, and then add them to the Crock Pot with the other stuff. I think I will also make the time to add some diced carrot, onion, and celery too! And, maybe a pinch of red pepper flakes!
BTW, when you mention “flour”, are you meaning all purpose flour? I assumed so but I am curious as to why you do not make this distinction?
Thanks for taking the time to share this recipe with us.
    Happy cooking!

I’m trying it today, just started it an hour ago. A great fall Sunday Supper. Can’t wait. Right down my husbands alley! Thank you!

  6. Looked good so I made it,but why make gravy? I used mushroom soup with roasted garlic,I already had it and didn’t have to add garlic wich I wuold have done anyway. Used one 7oz. can of diced green chiles cuz I didn’t have a bell pepper, and one can of mushrooms, and 8.25 of beef broth as I felt larger ammount was too much, turns out 4.5-5 oz. would have been better along with 2 pkgs. of soup mix. Since I used rice, just cooked 2 cups in a large pot and mixed beef and liquid in,hence no gravy. Great receipie to mess with!
